With the preamble out the way, meet
…Marie A Rebelle
Some people earn your respect, others, your trust. Marie does both — just by writing. Her essays tell relatable life stories that stay with you, letting you know you are not alone. No wonder they’re among the most-read on Know Thyself, Heal Thyself.
I first came across Marie’s work seven years ago, when she ran a fiction writing competition and had her own very popular lifestyle blog. Her absolute honesty and fearless way of writing deeply impressed me. In fact, she inspired me to take my own writing more seriously and was the second person — after my partner — to encourage me to write fiction.
Since then, she’s continued to write with depth, heart, and remarkable generosity. Not only that, but her writing has grown in both quality and emotional resonance, as she shares so much of herself and her life.
Marie’s personal essays explore realities — grief, family, neurodivergence, love, pain, and the complexity of healing. She writes from lived experience, and what she offers the reader is never performative — it’s honest, human, and deeply felt. Marie writes the truth.
Here are three standout pieces from her recent work with us:
Autism & Schizophrenia
I always said my kids differed like day and night. My daughter was the sun, my son, the moon. It was so easy to raise my daughter, while every day with my son was di…
Nothing Prepares You For The Ache
My mom passed away in 2017, 166 days after we learned how ill she was.
Do You See Their Silent Struggle?
“I’m twenty-five years old. I should be out partying, but some days I’m to scared to go outside.”
Marie has written numerous other essays for KTHT here and on Medium. Her words have brought in readers, subscribers, and long-time supporters. She offers the kind of storytelling that doesn’t pretend to have all the answers and dares to ask the important questions.
If you’ve never read Marie before, these three essays are a perfect place to begin. Just be warned — you’ll likely want to read everything else she’s written after.
Marie also curates the very popular Serial Stories on Medium, which is part of the Cocktail Club group of publications.

I am deeply moved by this, May. To say it came as a surprise is a colossal understatement. Thank you so much for your words, for putting this here. It comes on a day when I wrote about not being seen (post to follow), but today, I definitely feel seen. Thank you! 💜
Marie is truly something special. She is an inspiration to us all. Her presence and words make KTHT a better place. 💜
