Happy May, everyone!
We have May Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day - such a glorious month full of things to get excited about! And our lovely editor May is also called... May! We have to agree that this is a very special time of year and so we need to celebrate it with some gentle, yet creative and inspiring prompts.
We know you really loved last month’s prompt collaboration project and we have good news — we’re giving you 3 options on how to tackle this month’s prompts:
You can do the classic - write a personal essay individually and submit it as a draft. There's no limit to the number of words you can write, as long as it's vulnerable, powerful and true to you, we love it!
You can choose someone to collaborate with and find a creative way to combine your stories into one post. Again, there's virtually no word limit, as long as you both feel you've shared everything you needed to. You can either choose the same prompt. Or you can choose different ones and then link them together through alternating paragraphs/sections, call and response technique (where one introduces an idea/question and the other responds), building on each other's imagery, a shared narrative arc, etc. Get creative and have fun! We think this is a great way to connect with another writer whose work resonates with you.
You can write a narrative poem instead of an essay! We know poetry is something you've been waiting to hear about for a while now, and while we still don't accept poetry on a regular basis, we're making an exception this month to give you the chance to get as creative as you can. Narrative poetry is basically storytelling in verse, and at KTHT we focus on personal storytelling. Think of unfolding events, emotions, reflections, etc., but in poetic form!
Here’s an example from
We hope you like these ideas and as always, if you have any questions or need further clarifications,
and I are here to help. Some of this month’s prompts will be available to all, and some only to paid subscribers — but either way, there’s a bit of everything for everyone.May’s prompts:
Stuck in winter: did you ever feel stuck in the recent past, afraid to move forward?
A childhood spring: reflect back to a memorable childhood spring — include one colour, one taste, one sound and a scent.
Visibility: In the spring of life, everything can feel possible — but does visibility fade with age?
