Oh May. I don't know how this is for you, and yet I do know of this, and I do know that what you have shared here could not have been easy and yet so necessary. My heart just aches for you. Your words are alive with grief and May that's okay. More than okay. It f*#ckn hurts deep in places that you didn't know existed. So much loss... I hold compassion for younger you. You made it through in the ways you knew how and it was your younger self that carried you here today - to this page. Sit in the questions, the pain, the ugly, the beauty, the smile of "she's pretty perfect", sit with all the versions of yourself-sit with your grief dear May. We are here 🦆
Oh May, I want to hug you right now. I feel every bit of your loss in your words, and between your lines. I can say you will come out stronger, but I know how empty those words can sound. Just know, I'm thinking of you and am here if you want to talk 💜
I can feel the grief slipping off the page. Best friends know us so well, even without uttering a word. I can so relate as a best friend has an incurable disease. Even thought I don't see her much, we pick up right where we left off. Deep hugs to you...
“I’m still becoming the person who will write it.” What a powerful ending. You put words to something so many people feel but struggle to express. That’s beautiful. Praying peace finds you in the middle of all this. 💜
Like the island, I’ve sensed that distance both literally and metaphorically. You’ve been such a great friend to me and I have to couch that statement in the fact that if you walked past me if the street I wouldn’t recognise you. And now I’m on an island too. That was one of the first songs I wrote when I arrived here.
I remember that feeling of things slipping away. Places, things, friends, along with a strange horror regarding where I now was. But some threads remained from which to weave a new coat. You have been part of weaving that new coat and today I feel warmer than perhaps I ever have. But I know the shivering cold.
I hope I can return the favour in some small way. Next time I light the fire I’ll be metaphorically sending you some of its warmth.
I'm sorry you are feeling this way. I can relate. Life is a bumpy road for many of us, esp right now. With all the chaos in the world it's a miracle any of us is happy, sane, or comfortable.
As it's been said: this too will pass. Nothing is forever. Sending you healing vibes.....

I am hoping to weave my own coat too, Robert. Fingers crossed and I have your lamp in my mind and hopefully it will lighten my dark thoughts 💜
