Great essay Noor. Where my adoption is concerned, I too have stepped into various shoes to see things from different perspectives - it's important and allows us to view the wider picture and as u mentioned helps start the healing process.
I never thought I would be able to write from another person’s perspective, especially not from those I love. But as you said, it really does help. And not just me, but also my mom and dad. My dad read his own story, “The lie that raised her,” and he asked me how it was possible that I could describe his feelings so well. He said it felt like I truly saw him for how he was. That was the most beautiful compliment ever. ❤️
I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes (again). You don't only have a gift, you ARE a gift. To me. And you've always been, from the very first moment that I saw your beautiful dark eyes on me. Love you! ❤️
"Writing became a form of listening, an instinctive tracing of invisible lines between hurt and the ways we learn to survive."
Writing as listening... I never thought of it that way before. A way to slow down and make some sense of the babble of voices we carry around in our heads. Excellent. And a deeply moving essay as well. 👏😊
I know just how easy it is to continue a cycle of abuse and how difficult it is to break. Breaking that cycle is the best present any parent can give their child.
I love the way you've framed this. Thank you for sharing.

Your mother sounds like a true hero for breaking that cycle. Hugs!
She really is, Diana. She's my hero! ❤️

Thank you, Nevena ❤️
What a beautiful perspective!
And I’ve never thought to sit down and attempt to write from the perspective of someone else like that. I love the idea.
Thank you, David. 😊
Absolutely Mike. Even though she doesn't realize it herself, she is amazing. 🫶🏻
