Bravo 👏👏👏I love that “we feel our worth when we feel pleasure.” I absolutely agree with you. I am so glad and relieved that you are so open about sexuality. I was about to submit an essay to respond to the same prompt but had my reservation. Thanks to your essay, I feel I can be understood.

"Personal and angry and end philosophically and angry." I recently remember reading that there is much to explore and gain when we embrace and write what makes us angry. I appreciate how you have done precisely that, from highlighting a perspective of romance (you don't see many romantic thinking animals, and when you look at the history of most modern civilisations, well..) to encouraging us to think of the broader perspective of desire. A delight to read, Teresa, intriguing and thought-provoking.

You're so right - we need more stories that celebrate female desire and agency, stories that aren't afraid to be messy and unconventional! I love this essay, Teresa. I love the ferocity, the honesty, the controversy. I want to see more of that on KTHT.

"Romance is servility, a means to an end, a living for a future not for the moment."

Yes you got that soooo spot on and is also why people often crave romance.

What I really like about your words in this post is how you explore that desire IS a release that does make us feel worthy.

Damn Teresa this is a wild ride and thank you for being so open about your perspective though 🖤 btw the last line is just 👌 crazy good. And actually I was a part of a swing dance club and ppl keep dm-ing the insta account asking abt orgy. I was so tired explaining that it wasn't that 'swing' Lol most of them are recent graduates abt 22-28 and mostly married

LMAO, ahh... swingers just ruin this world, as far as I'm concerned. I mean the sex kind. But swing is my favorite playlist, something I've been spending time with recently as I get set for the third Velvet Trap series that debuts in 1942. I really like the neo-swing from the 90s too.

And the dancing! Love watching that.

Yep they're good and the drinking culture too lol. I mean the dance club. I get the sex kind though.. mostly escape--that's what they said. It's a bit too complex bcs we rlly should put moral out of the equation when we talk abt any primal experience like.. seggs. And most of your view actually capture on why and how. Glad you mentioned separateness and Bataille. You must have some good readings on ethics too I guess!

Most of the time people catch themselves and pull back before they let desire lead them to feeling worthy with pleasure. It’s not something you can think about too much as it happens.

I feel our senses are much more in the lead than our thoughts about what we feel. Scents can lead deep into desire and touch is a language best enjoyed without words.

So much else of what you wrote is brave and outside my experience.

Trying to make a living illustrating desire in fiction would make me a pauper. I wish you the best.

It's a lovely thought, but I'm not making a living this way... particularly when my fiction is all lesbian. But it feeds me, empowers me, and in the end, that's all I can really ask.
