Your piece hit home so hard! The reality of growth is so messy and non-linear. Thank you for putting into words something that a lot of us experience but can't quite describe.

I loved this sentence! "feels like a foreign being trying to pass itself off as your skin." The whole piece is wonderful. You did a great job expressing so many of the tiny details that I know so many of us feel on this path. Much Love!

If you have believed the things others have told you about you (how can my mother be wrong?) as I have for so long, it is difficult to find your true self. I sought therapy for years, then suddenly, everything clicked... I was told I was crazy, worthless, not smart, and worse, but I learned that this was merely projection from a person (or persons) who was very troubled and who blamed me for feeling troubled, as if I was the source of their misery. NOT! It has taken years, but I now love myself and try to stay away from people who want to tear me down. I work to encourage the folks I know and meet. This attitude works wonders.

I giggled when I read - how can your mother be wrong! As I know this question well. Thank you for reading the piece and taking the time to share your thoughts. I think it is wonderful that you’re sharing what you’ve learnt on your journey as these are lessons you can’t find in a text book!

You''re welcome. As Socrates once said: the unexamined life is not worth living.
